Thank you for visiting our classroom last week and meeting our chicks. We were fortunate to hatch 7 healthy chicks. We watched two hatch and the excitement in the classroom is something I will never forget. We loved having our fluffy, chirping friends in the classroom for a few days and were sad to see them go. We decorated duckling hats for our field trip on Friday. Here is a preview..... We are so excited for spring weather! Homework this week includes the following but please feel free to choose your own adventures too:
Please enjoy the wonderful weather and only complete the reading log. We are so excited to finally have the fertilized eggs in our classroom! Today is day 8. It takes a mere 21 days for a chick to fully develop and then hatch. Here is a video we found on youtube that shows the process, through computer animation. We have looked at it in class to remind us of what is happening in our classroom eggs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PedajVADLGw We are so excited to begin our egg to chick unit! Our eggs are nestled into our incubator toasty warm at 100-101 degrees with high humidity. We are excited to have a variety of eggs. We have a tiny white, 2 blue, 1 grey, some light beige and some brown. We wonder how many we will get and what color they might be. We will talk about the changes happening inside the eggs almost daily, keep a calendar and do TONS of activities. We will keep all our work in a folder and take it home all at once at the end. We will likely have an open house for parents and siblings on Friday, May 26th at 8:30 AM to see our chicks before they are returned to Drumlin farm.I was so proud of Room 3 on our field trip today. They were amazing listeners and I am eager to begin our chick unit now that the foundation has been set. Thank you to Mrs. Alford for accompanying us today. Our classroom reflections:
