The March Student Council coordinated with Mr. O'Connor to bring us a school wide obstacle course. Each class spent some time in the gym today and we enjoyed the extra movement. We hopped through hoops, swung on the rope swing, tumbled on mats, jumped hurdles, went through a tunnel, did a dice challenge, rode scooters, jumped blocks and sprinted to the finish. WOW! So fun!

Without a doubt, math stations is one of our most favorite learning times in Room 3. Yesterday we started some stations that will continue into today. We played several math games focusing on place value. Students in Room 3 are becoming experts at representing numbers with tens and ones. Our stations were:
Today in reader's theatre one of my groups read the story Ick I'm Sick. The story was told from the perspective of a germ. The germ was encouraging the children to spread germs and make more germs We had so much fun giggling and reading this silly story. We are excited to read more plays and eventually act some out. Just a reminder there is no school tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend and for those celebrating, Happy Easter!
Drop everything and CREATE! Today the entire school stopped regularly scheduled subjects and had DEC time. First grade engineers were hired by the Awesome Fun Toy Company to build a set of tops to sell in toy stores. The mission was to create a top that spun for a minimum of 10 seconds using multicube links. We worked in the space maker lab and had a blast! Our engineers had great success and lots of fun. I have been asked when will they see the money?!
Today we learned about comparatives. Adding (er) and (est) to the end of words to compare one person or thing to another. The ending (er) means more and the ending (est) means most. We learned that with cvc words we double the consonant before adding the ending and with words that end in (Y) we change the (y) to (I) before adding (er) or (est). We did a project to demonstrate understanding that will be hung up in our classroom soon.
A tremendous THANK you to all the amazing volunteers that help each week in Library and Art classes. Your help is greatly appreciated and I know the students in Room 3 LOVE to see you in those classes. What a wonderful whirlwind of a Friday we had in Room 3. We continued to work on 120 day activities today. We:
Today we shared books that we have been writing to the class. I am so proud of the authors and illustrators we have here. Each story that has been shared shows creativity and incredible effort. I am most pleased with the pride I see in each writer as they read his/her story to the class. AMAZING!!!! Hard to believe we are 2/3 through the school year! This year is flying by all too quickly. Today we celebrated 120 days of school with tons of activities based on the number 120. We:
We will continue our celebration tomorrow with more activities using the number 120. Today at our School meeting we learned about the difference between being a bystander and an upstander. A bystander is aware someone is being mistreated and does not contribute ,but also does nothing to help. An upstander stands up for the person being mistreated by saying something or getting an adult to help. Very important topic. Please talk to your child at home about the difference and how he/she could help a friend in need.
Using unifix cubes we have been measuring lots of different things in our classroom. Working in pairs, students have been predicting using 10's and 1's how long things are. Once the predictions have been recorded, students measure the item and record the actual measurement in 10's and 1's. The more the students have been measuring the better they have gotten at predicting very close to the actual! Fun activity to do and watch. We were thrilled Ms. Olson (Lexi's Mom) came into Room 3 today as a mystery reader. We love listening to stories and because I do not include "mystery reader" in our schedule- it is really a fun surprise! If you have not emailed me a date that works for you, please do so. My hope is to have each family represented before the end of the year. Thank you! |
