In Math, we are learning how to measure length using non standard units of measurement. We have been discussing the importance of lining up the edge of what we are measuring and trying to be as exact as possible. We had so much fun today measuring all kinds of things and people in our classroom.

Thank you for your careful attention in sending in winter appropriate outer gear. Please remember boots, snow pants, heavy winter coats, hats, and water resistant gloves everyday. If you would like your child to keep his/her gear in school they may leave it hanging on the hooks outside the classroom. I suggest using a reusable shopping bag for those transporting winter gear back and forth. They dry quick and the wide opening with handles makes packing easier for first graders. Plastic shopping bags are not durable enough and can be very frustrating for kids packing themselves at school.
I also recommend sending in a complete change of clothes for your child (including 2 pairs of socks) in case of getting wet while playing outside. Please let me know if you have any questions. THANK YOU! Yesterday I sent an emaill with a sign up document for guest reading in Room 3. Please choose one time to come into the classroom. I am purposely calling this "guest reader" and not "mystery reader" as your child might want to be part of the book selection process.. If you are unable to come into the classroom but would like to send a grandparent or older sibling in please feel free to do so. The sign up has 21 openings for 21 students in the class. Please only select one time slot for now giving each family time to decide if they can make it. I will send a follow up inviting parents to double up in the new year if spots remain open. THANK YOU!
