Thank you for all the delicious treats, thoughtful notes and generous gifts! I feel humbled by the kind notes I have received and my waist line may suffer from all the delicious baked goods. I am blessed to work with your children everyday. Each one of my students brings light into my world and becomes a part of my heart forever. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach them. Thank you for sharing them with me and thank you for your generosity this holiday season.
I wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you enjoy a restful vacation surrounded by those you love.

Room 3 has been working incredibly hard as a class collecting compliments. We have filled a second compliment jar in record time and will celebrate tomorrow. We made a list of rewards we wanted, and voted, We collected and analyzed the data and are excited to a BRING A FAVORITE STUFFED ANIMAL to school tomorrow, Tuesday December 22. Your child may bring one stuffed animal to school to celebrate amazing team work, respect and individual hard work. :) We are working on non standard measurement in math. Today we measured various strands of yarn using unifix cubes as our standard of measure. We combined some and compared length. I was most impressed with the cooperation I saw in class sharing supplies and taking turns. Amazing math! Positive self talk was a topic in a recent Open Circle. Positive self talk is saying encouraging things to yourself, helping yourself to try harder and not give up. We all do things that seem hard at first and we need to remind ourselves to stay focused and keep negative thoughts away. Ask your child about positive self talk. Encourage him/her to use it when he/she seems discouraged about learning or trying something new. Thank you for joining us this morning for our math games open house! We had so much fun showing you the games we play. We played:
I hope you will join us tomorrow for our first grade math open house! Come to Rooms 3 and 4 and play some of the math games we have been playing to help us practice math. Our Open House is from 8:30-9:15 in both first grade classrooms. We will have a second Math Open house in the spring.
As part of a community service project, we have four Middle School students visit our classroom today. They read us books and played games too. We read Chrysanthemum, Gingerbread Baby, Owen, and other student chosen favorites, We played Sorry, Mancala, Guess Who, Connect Four and Topple.. We enjoyed listening to books and playing with our new friends. We read the book Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett today and talked about story elements. We focused on the main character, his traits, and important events that happened in the story. We completed a news article highlighting the Gingerbread Baby and made gingerbread people. Very seasonal and very fun! During Literacy centers this week we focused on
It is impossible to know what to wear to be comfortable right now. Its nearly 60 degrees one day and 32 degrees the next. I recommend dressing your child in layers each day as the temperature can vary greatly within the building and throughout the day. Please send your child with a weather appropriate jacket each day too. We go to recess twice a day for approximately 20 minutes and that can feel really long if you are cold. I recommend keeping a hat and gloves in your child's backpack. We will continue to go to recess each day that it is safe to do so. Thank you for your attention to this.
